Highway 71 Mission

This mission outreach is off to a great start!

They began as a worshipping community on April 6th with 67 people present in the Briarcliff Community Center off of Pace Bend Road. Then on April 13th there were 45 worshippers.

The plan is to continue with weekly worship with the pastors of Shepherd of the Hills and St. Peters providing the leadership. Initially, Pastor Heidi and Pastor Danielle Casey will have primary responsibility. Hopefully, Merle and I will be out there on occasion as well.

Several of our members have been a part of the worship experiences. Some will become a permanent part of the new congregation, while others are giving the mission their support for a period of time to help it “get off the ground.”

A task group has begun to look for land which might serve as a permanent site for the congregation. As you can imagine, finding something affordable in that area is quite a challenge!

We have received a three-year grant of $75,000 from the Endowment Fund at Palm Valley Lutheran Church in Round Rock which will be used to help provide support for a full-time pastor. We hope a pastor will be onsite early in 2009.

And, finally, in case you are wondering, the mission group has yet to decide upon a name. That should happen soon.
