Learning and Sharing groups provide small communities to seek, learn and grow in prayer, study, fellowship and service to our neighbors.
Sunday Morning Formation Classes – [Sunday; 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.] Worship is only one part of our Sunday morning experience. Adults and young people gather between services for coffee and deeper conversations about their faith through study, activities and discussions about Biblical texts or current events. Some classes meet every week. Others meet for a shorter duration of one to three weeks. Most classes are self contained units so, even if you miss a Sunday or two, you can join in without feeling lost.
- Prayer Group – [Tuesday; 4:45 p.m.; Library; contact Judy Moore] Meet to pray for the cares and concerns of people in our church and community.
- Sisters – [Friday; 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. ; Library; A lay led group of women meet for study of the Bible or current topics, sharing and prayer.
- Wednesday Morning Bible Study –[Wednesday; 1o:00 a.m.; Upper Room; Contact Pastor Ron Bessert ron@shephills.org]- Coffee and Bible study with the Pastor connects this group largely comprised of women but men are welcome. The group will not meet in the summer. They will meet again in September.
- Covenant Home Bible Study-[Fourth Tuesday of each month; 7:30 p.m.; contact Milt Nielsen] A home Bible Study that meets in the Lakeway area.
- Prayer Breakfast- Start your morning right with breakfast, book discussion and prayer. This six week study group meets twice a year in the fall and during Lent. Annual Fish Fry – [Sunday afternoon in early June] The Church’s anniversary celebration is held on the banks of Barton Creek. The annual tradition brings young and old together to swim, eat fish, play games and have a ton of fun!
- Christ Renews His Parish (CHRP)- Separate overnight weekend retreats for men and women are held at the church in the spring and fall, providing opportunities for spiritual renewal and personal growth.
- Prayer Shawl Ministry- [Sunday; 5:30 p.m.; Library; Prayer shawls are crocheted and knitted. They are distributed to anyone who is in need of comfort. Free lessons are provided.
- Quilting Group- [Second Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. and Second Saturday at 9:30 a.m; Upper Room; contact Rhoda Burkett through the church office; 327-3370] Quilts are made by members of Shepherd of the Hills and distributed through Lutheran World Relief, a well run organization that meets the needs of those who have encountered disaster in their lives.
- Vintage Friends-[contact Pastor Merle Franke] Retired members and their friends meet periodically throughout the year for programs, outings, and service projects.
- Men’s Breakfast – [2nd Saturday of the month; 8:00 a.m.contact Ron Bessert; ron@shephills.org] Breakfast and study draw this group of men together.
- Parent Share- [First Monday of each month; 11:30a.m.- 1:00 p.m.; Upper Room; contact Amy Ruedas amy@shephills.org]- Parents gather to share their collective wisdom and learn from outside experts about parenting and child development.
- Austin Employment Group (AEG)- [Second and Fourth Monday of each month; 6:30 p.m.; Fellowship Hall; ]- Connect with a network of job seekers who will support you in your quest for employment. Visit http://austinemploymentgroup.org for more information.
- Men’s and Women’s Retreats- [contact Pastor Ron Bessert ron@shephills.org ] Weekend retreats are held each spring for reflection, rest and renewal at various retreat centers outside of Austin.
